Benefits of EAST Membership

 

 

The benefits of membership in the Eugene Association of Substitute Teachers are valuable and include:

*automatically becoming a member of NEA, the largest professional association in the U.S. You also receive their publication.

Take note! You are not automatically a dues paying member of EAST just because $27.17 is deducted from your 4J paycheck. For any pay period in which you work eight hours or more in District 4J a one time ‘Fair Fee’ or Dues is deducted from your paycheck. This Fair Fee/Dues is automatically subtracted and only works for if you are a member of EAST. If you have not filled out and submitted the simple membership form, you are paying the Fair Fee and not dues. In other words, you are not a member of EAST.

No fee/dues are deducted if you work fewer than 8 hours in a pay period. So if, for instance, you take a long term assignment in one of the other districts in the area no fee/dues will be assessed during that assignment – you will not be billed and you have no obligation to EAST whatsoever. At the same time you are not taken off the membership rolls until you notify us or are hired by District 4J. In addition, dues are tax deductible. It is good sense to become a member of EAST.
